Travertine tiles exhibit
beautiful light chocolate, caramel and beige colors. The material is
extremely dense and contains fewer holes than usual. These have been
factory filled or tumbled and left unfilled as you can see from the
images below (scroll down to the end of the page). There are three types
ofs: classico, walnut, mocha and pewter.
Travertine is really tough and very dense so it can be used almost
anywhere. The most popular uses are kitchens, bathrooms, living and
entertainment areas. The tumbled product is popular for outdoor paving
on verandahs and alfresco dining areas. Travertine is also available in 30mm thick pavers with a tumbled finish.
The tumbling process has two important effects. Firstly, it softens and
lightens the color. Secondly, grip characteristics are improved
resulting in a lower risk of slipping when the surface is wet. This is
why tumbled travertine
is used widely on outdoor surfaces that get wet; bathrooms too! Tumbled
pavers can be seen in the image of the pool deck - below right.
